Joan Aitchison

Biography

I studied fabric and threads as part of my degree; texture and pattern and the juxtapositioning of shapes and colour. I became a teacher and then as semi retirement came along, I had the time available to me that I had always promised myself.....a time for my art. My parents', artists and writers, preferred medium was watercolour. When I inherited their paints and brushes, I literally picked them up and explored what watercolour could do! Experimentation has led me into different styles, but the inspirational source is the same... our natural world. The wonderful patterns and colour combinations that surround me when out walking take hold both consciously and subconsciously.....and so true 'the more you look, the more you see'.
