Janet Hovard

Biography

Having recently finished full time work as a photographer at the University of Oxford, I can now devote time to my artistic ambitions. Over the years I have studied painting and drawing with the Open College of the Arts, taken part in Oxfordshire Artweeks regularly and have had work accepted into many Open and Group exhibitions. Much of my work is inspired by the natural world: local countryside, woodlands, and regular visits to the British coast. I can be inspired by a small detail or a vast panoramic scene. Using sketchbooks and photographs to record scenes, ideas and experiences is an important part of my creative process and it allows me to take a step back from realistic representation and interpret the world around me in my own way. I aim to explore the use of diverse styles and media and particularly enjoy the immediacy of charcoal, conté and pastel.
