Jackie Williams
Biography
My background is painting for galleries in the south west whilst still in school, followed by art college in Bristol, after which I went into commercial art, working for agencies, as well as designing and painting pictorial pub signs for breweries, murals for restaurants and a spell of interior design projects, before I set up a consultancy in Chorley with a partner. This developed into a full service Graphic Design consultancy, Primary Graphics, in the late ’80’s, operating to the present day producing branding, packaging and marketing collateral for businesses across the UK and overseas, as well as local clients. Over the last ten years I have been painting again and was particularly productive during lockdown, resulting in many sales via Facebook. A solo exhibition in a Lyme Regis gallery for one week resulted in sales of 20 pieces and several commissions. Having grown up there by the sea, Lyme Regis has featured in many of my paintings, along with semi-abstract seascapes that evoke the spirit of coastal living. Some are inspired by memories of places visited on my travels in both the UK and Europe and, more recently, South Africa in 2024. Others are pure abstract impressionism, where colour and texture create a feeling or mood and replace fine representational detail. These must have depth, texture, composition, balanced colour and tone, with special effects and details that can engage the viewer and spark their imagination.
