Connie Vickers

Biography

From the age of 3 mum taught me needlework and other crafts...and so began my lifelong love of pattern and colour. After working many years in the administrative field, at the age of 40 in 1999 I was finally able to start exploring painting. In 2004 I stopped painting to pursue study and jewellery making but since 2012 I have concentrated once again on painting, using mainly watercolours although I also enjoy painting using oils, acrylics, graphite and coloured pencils. I love all aspects of art and have studied Art History and 20th Century Art with the Open University. In 2009 I began a Fine Art Degree with Oxford Brookes University as I believe you can never stop learning and currently continue to attend art workshops when possible. My work has been published in the SAA Paint magazine and is in private collections both in the UK and in Australia. While living in Devon, in 2003 and 2004 my work was selected and hung in the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford at the annual Summer Exhibitions with the highly regarded Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society. Having moved to Wiltshire, in 2012 I was privileged to exhibit alongside professional artists with the Pure Watercolour Society in Gloucestershire. I came runner up in 2013 for the national St Cuthberts Mill, Saunders Waterford Postcard Competition. Since 2016, moving back again to live in Devon, I have been an associate member of the Westward Ho! & Bideford Art Society with my artwork being exhibited at the annual Summer Exhibitions in the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford. In 2022, after the pandemic lockdowns, I was elected a full member of WhoBid. Inspiration for my artwork comes from the light in the beautiful countryside, the stunning coastline and the beauty or quirkiness I see in ordinary scenes. With all the worries and concerns we encounter everyday, I wish for my art to bring a moment of respite and inner delight. www.connievickersfineart.com
