Claire Carrington

Biography

I was brought up in a sleepy suburb of Grantham called ‘Harrowby and Londonthorpe Without’, in the beautiful open countryside of Lincolnshire. Exactly what we were ‘without’, I’m still not sure (?!) but the quiet quirkiness of this vast rural county - from the funny place names to the local history and customs - inspired my love of landscapes, locations and our relationships with them. After careers in marketing and teaching, I returned to full time education, taking a HND in Art and Design at Grantham College to rekindle my love affair with art and design. Having completed my HND with Distinction, I’m now lucky enough to work from a studio in my back garden in a buzzing village with plenty of escape routes to the open countryside. During walks, I regularly gather inspiration from the wildlife that thrives there and the agricultural calendar of our farming community. I also love to travel and take inspiration from the wonderful landcapes of the Great British Isles, using photograpy to document and record information that can be used in the studio. I create a range of graphic images using mixed media, traditional and digital print techniques and paints and pencils. My digital images can be printed onto a variety of surfaces including paper; canvas, ceramic and textiles.
