Biography
After being trained by some of the best contemporary watercolour artists, Catherine De Ryck has developed her own mark, immediately recognizable and full of poetry and emotion. The artist plays with the properties of pigments and paper to suggest atmosphere, evanescence or materiality. She creates contrasted and powerful works layer by layer, from colourful and textured backgrounds, and combines serveral watercolour techniques to depict her subject. Catherine De Ryck takes part in personal and group exhibitions in her own country and overseas. Exhibiting her paintings has won her awards in watercolour but also in other art disciplines. Her work is featured in several art magazines, including Art'Issime, Pratique des Arts and The Art of Watercolour. The artist is also a workshop instructor and a member of serveral art societies; she gives numerous watercolour demonstrations in Europe and officiates as a judge for international art competitions. In 2012 and 2014, for the first time in Europe, she created and organized the International Watercolour Biennial in Estaimpuis (BEL). The event gathered 50 artists coming from more than 20 countries and proposed a contemporary vision of watercolour through innovative and creative approaches.
