Barry Hallam

Biography

I am a amateur artist that is keen to try new techniques and different media. Over the years I have produced painting initially in Oils, then Pastel, Watercolour, Mixed Media and Acrylic. I have experimented with digital artwork on my iPad and in Painter on my iMac but have not progressed as much as I would like due to the technical detail of this media. My natural preference now is to work in Watercolour on my favourite Hahnemuhle Cornwall 30 x 40 cm 450g/m2 Rough paper mainly on Landscapes and Portraits. My inspiration has been from attending Painting and Drawing classes run by Chrissie Borland at The Mill Art centre in Banbury and being an active member of the Claydon Art group (now at Upper Boddington) for a number of years. I admire the work of local artists John Somercale for his Watercolours, Tony Hinchliffe’s Acrylics and Jane Betteridge for her Mixed media as I have received tuition from all these artists. I am a regular reader of The Artist as I often try the demonstrations as exercises to improve my skills and my bound magazine collection dates from 2008.
