All you want for Christmas - paints, paper, brushes!

Kerry Bennett recommendations

Kerry Bennett put Wallace Seymour Watercolours to the test using Melanie Cambridge brushes on Bockingford paper. These three products were new to her and she loved them all! Goes to show that they'd make perfect Christmas presents whether the recipient knows them already or not!

Wallace Seymour Watercolours

Wallace Seymour watercolour paints, in this instance the Yorkshire Vintage set with it's earthy colours and tones, were a total pleasure to paint with.

The pigments set well and have very good granulation properties. The colours were easy to lift and blended and flowed well on the paper. They also worked very well using the salt technique.

I can't wait to try out this set in painting a warm landscape or even a semi abstract landscape.

The Yorkshire Vintage set of seven colours, inspired by the Yorkshire scenery, can be ordered for £58.30 from Art Supplies with Painters Online

Melanie Cambridge Brushes

I thoroughly enjoyed using the Melanie Cambridge beginners set of paintbrushes.

They held plenty of water and paint, have a very fine point which is so important and retained their shape whilst painting.

I especially liked the flat 6 brush which is great for lifting the paint to tidy up the edges and also for washes.

The round 4 and 7 were very useful sizes, everything needed to get you started on your watercolour journey.

The beginner's set of watercolour brushes can be purchased from Art Supplies with Painters Online for £22, with a set of five costing £40.

Bockingford Paper

I used the thick, sturdy 7x5in. 300gsm Bockingford paper pad and loved the perfectly random texture of the paper which gives a great finish to any painting.

I didn't need to stretch the paper, but I find it always good to tape all four sides down with masking tape so you can lift your board up and make the paint flow to where you want it to go.

I found it was excellent to lift the paint and to use with pelnty of water, making it very forgiving to everything I threw at it.

An all round excellent choice of paper.
