Save the Arctic

Artist and regular contributor to The Artist, Glyn Macey, is about to embark on a major art based travel project to Svalbard in the Arctic, helping to raise awareness for the Greenpeace ‘Save the Arctic’ campaign.

Well known for his travel and art projects for charitable organisations such as RNLI and UNICEF, British artist, and regular contributor to The Artist, Glyn Macey is set to work on his most ambitious project to date. Painting his way around the coast of Arctic Svalbard, documenting the wildlife and climate changes affecting one of the most fragile environments on the planet.

The aim of Glyn Maceys latest artistic venture is to help raise further awareness of the Greenpeace 'Save The Arctic' campaign. A campaign dedicated to protecting and preserving the fragile Arctic environment, it's wildlife and people.

No stranger to demanding travel projects; over the last six years, Glyn Macey has painted his way across America from New York to Los Angeles for UNICEF, circumnavigated the English coast producing 180 original paintings for RNLI and crisscrossed the UK filming the television series 'A Brush with the Landscape' for Sky. The projects have raised well over £75,000 for the benefitting charities.

'I've been caught up in an Arizona wildfire, outran a Tornado in Ohio and been capsized off the Northumbrian coast, so I've certainly had some adventures on my travels' said Macey, 'But painting in subzero temperatures will be the biggest challenge yet. The Arctic is such a precious environment, and our changing climate is affecting it at an ever increasing rate; this issue simply can't be ignored.'
