This is just stunning, Thea. Beautifully executed, I like it very, very much and it is a typical "Thea"-pen and wash! About the blurry images, I have the same problem. I always are a bit disappointed when I see the result of my postings, even enlarged. Although I can see that my original photo's are sharp, the postings aren't anymore!

Please don't tell me you did this in 30 seconds!!!!!!!! Don't get the LP mag but I just might buy one to see where you are coming from - love it !!

Well Thea, this is much better than the one in LP!!! This has got character , it is beautifully drawn, interesting and you have used such lovely colours. Well done!

Thank you so much Mia, Debs and Satu for such nice comments. No Debs, I didn't do this one in 30 seconds, lol! It actually took a bit of thinking about as it is never that obvious to me which bits should be left unpainted. Satu, that's a very nice compliment. I did want to put my own spin on it - that's my competitive nature coming out! Mia, the blurry image problem seems to be getting worse to me. I think the site needs a major overhaul!

I like your watercolour a lot. As regards blurry images I think it happens when there are too many high resolution images on your screen. When your computer is low on RAM memory you get lower resolution images. Sometimes it takes several seconds and the picture quality improves.

No mistaking this is one of yours Thea, much more lively and interesting than the original one!

Light, bright and excellent as usual Thea!

This is lovely Thea, very well executed. Bit fed up with all the adverts taking over my page on here though.

Thank you very much Pat, Christine and Sarah for such lovely comments. I do confess that I thought the original, although an excellent painting, a tad predictable, so I did try to inject a little more surprise into the piece. Pat, all my images are really sharp on my computer screen. It is only when they load onto the gallery that some look blurry. If I had submitted this painting to POL (the route that you are supposed to take) it would have been even blurrier as when they re-posted it on the gallery. I have found this in the past when I have submitted work to them. Not sure why this happens.

There's definitely a "wow" element in this. Your confidence is obviously growing in this medium - they look so easy and relaxed; a super job Thea.

Thank you so much, Avril. I must admit I am loving pen and wash and every time I sit down to do a 'proper' painting, I get drawn to doing it in pen and wash instead. I am trying to work out how to do a portrait in this medium but I haven't seen many done like that. I would like to search some out to give me some guidance and inspiration, so if anyone knows of any artists doing this, then please let me know. I don't want to copy anyone, just see what the problems and pitfalls are.

Absolutely stunning work, Thea! Love the sparkle of the gorgeous palette and the lovely sunny atmosphere.

Late as I am to the party, I think everyone has said what I would have said, but much better! Lovely and fresh, as usual.

Didn't see the Mag but this is the sort of scene I like to paint (so differently in style to yours Thea) - lovely piece

This is a super interpretation of the LP project, so much so that I think I. Will take mine off! Lol.

Thank you very much Seok,Gudrun, Michael and Stephen for such encouraging comments. Stephen, have you had a go at this one? If so, I don't think I have seen it on the gallery - did you post it?

Hi Thea, yes I did post it but it's under 'Leisure Painter' rather than me.

Thea, The blur may occur when POL automatically downsize your upload. I have looked at the code and found that it resizes pictures to about 820 x 620 pixels. So if you upload a much higher resolution that might cause the blur.

Stephen, I couldn't find it? Pat, that's an interesting one as I recently turned up the resolution on the images I have been posting. I don't think the images were blurry before that. Perhaps you have nailed the problem. I only turned it up so that when the image was enlarged it was a decent size on the screen. Thanks very much for such useful advice.

Hi Thea, If you type in Leisure Painter in the search box on the gallery page, it should bring up a folder showing one painting, if you click on that it brings up separate portfolios of the different projects from the magazine. I think this is the second project.

This is pretty Thea. I don't get the LP but this interpretation is certainly in your own style of working and the white areas work very well.

I've never had a go at one of the projects in Leisure Painter before, but I quite liked the challenge of this one, with the timbered house and village green with parked cars. The one in the mag was a painting, but I have done it in pen and wash. I have seen a few posted, done by others, on the gallery and it is interesting to see how different the individual interpretations are. (P.S. Why do some images on the gallery appear blurry until you enlarge them???? A problem that needs sorting I think.)

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
