Good painting, Stephen.

Very good, Stephen. The buildings are top notch and wonderfully grounded. Brian

Many thanks for those encouraging words Brian.

Great bit of history to accompany this lovely gentle painting. Nice work, Stephen.

Many thanks CA. I was really surprised I hadn't heard of that quite important event. There is a big exhibition at Manchester Art a Gallery at present, of a lady painters work. The name escapes me but apparently she was the first woman to have been accepted into the RA. She was also much involved in the suffrage movement. Perhaps the establishment were not impressed!

Super to hear this bit of local history, and love the soft painting, with it's great sense of space and recession

I think your response is worth looking up, Stephen. There were times when women artists could only have a number present on their art, we have come so far when it comes to equality... but we're not quite there :)

V G sense of structure in those buildings Stephen. The are even stronger without the left hand side.

Thanks John, I was thinking the left hand side gave a lead into the building but it is a bit flat, perhaps a figure might help?

The artist I mentioned is Annie Swynnerton.

A small watercolour on Jackson's semi rough paper. I was interested to see on the news recently, an article about Marjorie Lees(daughter of the owner of the property and grounds which became the park). Traveling 100 years ago in a gypsy caravan, in support of the Sufferage movement. Surprising what local history has been forgotten!

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
