works very well, Stephen. It is difficult to photograph paintings!

Shadows often help a lot to add interest - don't be nervous of making them too strong, though: if they're in evidence at all, they're likely to be quite dominant, obviously depending on the strength of light and the time of day. A favourite 'trick' - it's not really a trick - is to incorporate the shadow of a tree or building outside of the picture frame - it can be overdone, but used effectively can contribute to the idea of a pattern in the painting; tonal contrasts are generally what bring a painting to life.

Very nicely done, Stephen. Has a lovely sunny feel to it, without being overpowering.

Lovely and Agree with Robert

It's come to life Stephen. Were the couple and car in the orignal?

Many thanks everyone for your kind words. There were two cars in the original photo but I thought I would replace one of them with the figures.

I thought I would add a few shadows and this photo is nearer in tone to the original.

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
