Imaginary tonal scene

Hi! ... and I ought to do more drawing while I wait for the paint to dry on my oil painting!! Tone is tricky.

Thanks for your comments Gudrun.

Well, I'm always reluctant to say anything on the gallery, as I count myself to be very inexperienced. However, here's my thoughts. I like the composition, and the range of tones. However, the light-toned pavement, and the shadows of the figures, suggest a strong light from the lowish left. But the tonal treatment of the figures themselves doesn't match. The figures, particularly, the taller figure in the left foreground where there should be nothing obscuring the light, seem to be equally lit from both sides which doesn't ring true to me.

Oops! I did say I wasn't very good at tones. Thanks Bill, for pointing that out, will have to adjust, I suppose that 's what sketches are for.

Join the club, Stephen, I am rubbish at remembering about tone. I wouldn't know how to advise on this one save to say I really like it and think it is a great drawing.

Super piece, Stephen. You're doing pretty well, the tonal work is very well done.

Many thanks, Thea and Seok.

I thought I would practice, trying to improve my use of tone, which I struggle with.
