A passing shower at Tilford (after Roland Hilder)

Excellent rendition of Rowland Hilder superb painting.

Well he’s always worth looking at, his style is unmistakable - I know this painting, nicely represented in your own style Stephen.

Many thanks, Stephen and Alan. Like all great artists, Hilder’s work is very difficult to copy!

He is one of my very favourite water colourists, this is a super study and I'll bet you learned a lot from doing it!

Well, it's very good indeed and I really like how you've painted it

I'll have to take a look at him Stephen but this is a beautiful scene.

I just looked at some of his work, it's fabulous.

Many thanks everyone for your encouraging thoughts. I think he illustrated books early on. Hence his skill at drawing. When I first started painting he was often criticised for being too detailed, compared to Wesson, Seago, J.F.W. and co. I suppose there is room for every style in art.

It's turned out really well, Stephen. And with the lovely loose linework. you've made this very much your own.

After commenting on Alan Bickley’s recent posting. I looked at my copy of Roland Hilder’s book of paintings ‘British Isles’ and decided to try to copy this one. As usual, it was much harder than I expected!

About the Artist
Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
