wow! Shaun..........this is as good as a photograph! it is really lovely :-)

Really god painting indeed! You should be proud!

Like this for many reasons - a) it's an oil, and an accomplished one, b) the colour is rich and clean, c) it's the sort of country I like most, typical as it happens of the landscape here near Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.

A really attractive painting - you have captured the wheat really well. I l like your treatment of the sky that suggests a warm hazy afternoon - very appealing.

Unusual yet well chosen angle to emphasise the main topic. Looks really good.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. I used the edge of a palette knife quite a lot with this one, and at times I felt as though I was creating by accident.

Beautifully done. I love the rich colours.

Shaun, that's what oil (and a palette knife, but brushes can achieve it too) can do for you - that's why they're such a marvellous medium that more people should try. I'd say that although you felt you were creating by accident, you knew what you were doing: effective techniques don't happen by accident, experience, knowledge, or even plain old instinct lie behind them: but oil enables you to say what's in your mind as nothing else can - of course it can go horribly wrong, but at it's best, with clean knife or brush and paint, you can just make a statement without worrying at it.
