This is lovely Seok my favourite flowers how lucky you are to have them grow in the wild where you live.

And you say you have problem with greens! - I love it - beautiful painting

Just had to log in to leave a comment on this Seok. Such a beautifully painted natural looking display. Wonderful selection of greens!

This must have taken forever to paint, it's absolutely beautiful. The orchids are so delicate and you've depicted an amazing array of greens. Can I ask what colours you use to mix your greens?

What a lovely feel you have for growing things, Seok, this is beautiful!

How lovely! The colours are beautiful and to see orchids painted in a garden setting and not in a pot is wonderful.

Such delicate flowers - superb

beautiful painting, complex, well balanced composition, works so well

This is beautiful Seok. lovely orchids and so well painted

Your range of subjects knows no bounds - nobody could ever accuse you of being a formulae artist- something I also try to avoid. This is exquisite and so well executed - I don't think I would have the patience to paint in such detail and yet it avoids the trap of looking fussy. Superb study.

Amazing composition, superb greens

Thank you so very much, everyone, for your very kind comments! Val, I use a touch of Hooker's Green/Cobalt Turquoise/Pthalo Blie, combined with either Aureolin or Indian Yellow for the lighter greens, and darken the resulting mixture with Burnt Sienna for the midtones. For darker greens, I use Hooker's Green with Burnt Sienna or Sepia. I also use Payne's Grey Bluish with Burnt Sienna for the very dark accents. I've also discovered Cerulean Blue of late, so I've used that with Hooker's Green or Cobalt Turquoise to produce the bluish leaves. I use either Schmincke or Holbein watercolors, I started off with Schminke because that is the brand I use for my oils, but my art shop recommended a Holbein travel set to me last year and I found that superb value for money, and would recommend it if it is available in your art store. I still find my greens a bit monotonous, so I'm still experimenting to see what else I can use. And yes, it took me two weeks on and off. Many times I just wanted to bin it, but my very patient art teacher kept pushing me to work at it one segment at a time until I finished. It'll be a while before I try something so foolish again!

I agree with Michael, Seok, I envy you for the patience you had to finish this beauty! It is stunning.

Thank you so much, Mia! PS. Joy, I am sure there are orchids that grow wild somewhere, but if they do so in Singapore, I haven't seen one! This was put together by some rather good landscape gardeners for our annual garden festival, and I'm sure there are more remote places where there are wild orchid patches, but the one in Singapore is pure sham!

Wonderful - it's just perfect! composition, palette and your delicate touch. (ps. I discovered the origin of the word orchid yesterday!)

Wonderful piece Seok Yam, such detail. You are a master of greens, never a doubt. I'd love to know what size it is. Superb!

Wow Seok......a beautiful painting. You must have an endless supply of patience.

What an exquisite vignette of these wonderful flowers and plants. Delicately and beautifully painted in your wonderful style.

Thank you very much, Stephen, Avril, Lesley, Fiona and Thea! Stephen, I'm very sorry I accidentally deleted your message. This iPhone touchscreen device is painful. I m still very clumsy with it, but thank you, I appreciate it very much.

So pretty and delicate Seok. Wonderful work - I love orchids.

Thanks so very much, Denise!
