I always think those masks are quite spooky and yours do give me a bit of a shiver down my spine. I bet all sorts of naughtiness happened at these masked balls in Venice. Great image, Satu, and shows that your talent was there then and has continued to grow and flourish.

I was in Venice a few years ago during the carnival. It was very spooky, and rather frightening too! You've captured the menacing atmosphere that I felt then so well!

They do have a haunted look about them, and a sadness for some reason. I like the play of light against dark or could it be good against evil....getting a bit deep....I'll shut up!Lol. Love it anyway!

Thank you ever so much Thea, Christine and Fiona for your kind comments!

Enigmatic composition Satu, especially like the face of the one in blue!

I don't like these masked balls. Creepy. You have managed to capture that sinister creepiness; also I can see how far you have come with your work; confidence and flair.

The talent was obviously there ten years ago Satu. I like this even though I think it looks mysterious and spooky. The contrast of the dark hand on light material is clever also the composition.

Many thanks Debs, Gudrun and Carole for your comments! I agree that the masks are scary and spooky but very glad if I managed to create that impression in my painting.

It makes me wonder what they're whispering about Satu. Probably a man that they both like the look of! You've caught that secretive, mysterious feel of the masked Venetian balls. A good composition as well with the lady's blue gloved hand at a sharp angle perfectly balanced by the lady in blue.

Like everyone else I find those masks slightly unnerving but it doesn't distract from a great painting with the dark against light enhancing each other.

I totally agree with the above comments, Satu. You perfectly caught the spooky atmosphere, well done!

Thank you Val and Mia for your comments!

Been to one of the carnivals, and you're spot on in capturing the mood and feel, Satu! Great work!

Just been looking at your lovely gallery Satu. I love this and it reminds me of my favourite scene from Phantom of the Opera, my favourite musical of all time. I am taling about Masquerade which never fails to entrance me. It was a great scene particularly well done.

I was clearing my studio and found this painting with no date on it but it must be about ten years old and based on Venetian Carneval.
