This is lovely Roger, especially the sky and foreground shore and rocks. A few more highlights in the sea would make this spectacular.

Lovely painting Roger. The soft acquamarines in the sea are great. You could try increasing the light on the foreground beach with a very pale peach colour - something that would match the light on the exposed beach in the sea areas might produce the effect you are looking for. and also contrast with those teal blue greens . As it’s oil ,if you don’t like it you can always scrape it off!!

You have caught the vast expanse, which is difficult to do. Full of energy.

Lovely landscape, Roger, beautifully painted. I can only say that I've had the same problem as you with Luskentyre and other white beaches, The answer might be to paint them almost 'White' but this painting is terrific.

That water is gorgeous, it makes you want to visit to see if it really does look like that. Altho the sky makes it look cold and blustery like you were wrapped up warm that day, I can imagine you in a big windproof coat, scarf and hat, your fingers going red and your eyes watering with the cold of the day. When you get in your fingers burn and your face tingles from how cold it was. It's fab it tells a story.

Thanks, everyone. I've added a few gulls since I took the photo. Carole, you've reminded me that I wanted to try including the breakers which are usually out where the open sea meets the estuary / beach. I'll do that now.

16" x 20" oil on canvas painted from two plein air watercolours. Neither watercolour had such a dark sky but the only way to paint the brightness of a Harris beach is to contrast it with a dark background. Any comments and constructive criticism will be gratefully received.
