The Footbridge, somewhere in Sussex

This is really good Robert isn’t it strange how we get the bug to paint the same scene more than once.

I like the sparkle on the water. Can’t see ratty though…

Beautifully painted Robert

Love the way you do trees Robert. I particularly like the branch half submerged, off centre, with the lovely light falling on to it. I can see ratty at the bottom of the painting……I think.

Glad you came back to it Robert, I like this a lot

Excellent painting Robert ☺️

A little beauty here 🥰

A gorgeous spot beautifully painted!

I like your treatment of the foliage and trees and how the water shimmers Robert.

This is lovely Robert.

Yes, I believe I can see Ratty….nice one Roberto.

I think as artists, we've all been guilty of pushing a good idea in lots of different ways at one time or other Robert. It's a lovely painting - I wonder if you feel it's the better of the four?

Oh yes, I remember viewing your drawing of this scene and the trees certainly turned out superb and long grasses too!You did a good job in painting this scene with the footbridge and lake shimmering , lovely work Robert!

This is a lovely piece - really eye catching

I do remember it… you’ve put an incredible amount of detail into your trees, and in fact your foreground grasses. My mind is saying that less detail would be better in the far right clump, and perhaps a bit more depth or tonal strength in some of the grasses nearest the eye. Nice job here nonetheless Robert, I hope you don’t mind me mentioning those couple of things!

Thanks all; I think maybe there is a touch more tonal depth overall in the actual painting - I refrained from adjusting this in any way on the screen; maybe I should have done, but it's always hard to know when to stop and when you're misrepresenting the actual painting. But detail - yes, I do tend to hit the detail: I could really do with someone to pull me away from the canvas. I think, in response to Frank Bingley, that this is the best of the four - certainly, it's FAR better than the original painting, which relied too heavily on Pthalo Blue and Pthalo Green - there's none of that in this one; hard to compare with the pastel; and I don't think I've shown the pen and ink version: I might yet. And yes, there is a rat - not sure if he's a water-vole - in the lower third; again, rather more clear in the actual painting, but I do like to make you look for him...

A fine painting Robert. I also spotted Ratty.

Lovely light, and like the soft colours.

Love the colours you have used in this scene Robert and the dreamy atmosphere.

You may - and may not - remember the hard pastel I did of this scene in a place in Sussex. Oil on birch panel 40cm x 32. Having drawn it twice and painted it twice, I'm hopeful it'll be out of my system now.
