Oh I wouldn't say this is a tight painting. I like the textures, which you might not get in a looser style (?) (I haven't used oils for years so am not qualified to say,) but I think this is a delightful picture.

What's wrong with tight if it works and this does. I don't get this emphasis on loose all the time; not everyone likes loose.

May blessings untold be upon both of you - I work on my own a bit too much, I think, and have the sort of mind that turns on itself if there's no one else to do it! Pleased that this works for you.

I am not a fan of oil as most paintings I see in this mediumk look far too heavy with opressive colours. This on the other hand buzzes with light and beautiful colour and is a most attractive work. Forget tight or loose - paint it from your gut feeling. I agree with Diana that the holy grail of 'loose' is very misleading as it doesn't suit all subjects. I am viewing this as your interpretation of the scene and how you felt about it at the time and it works in spades. You might even convert me to liking oil paintings!

I love this, I love the colours too. Really beautiful painting.

Extremely encouraging comments, thanks again. You have made me think.

Think the best way to do loose oils is plein air perhaps, robert - am learning that it doesnt pay to think too much and I like this for the colours and not the looseness exactly but not too structured either

I like the detail, and think this is a great painting. JAD

I like it :) I am not really on the take with art language as I taught myself, so Im thinking by tight you mean to much to close? I think its lovely any way, and thanks again for your comments on my new painting.

What a wonderfull painting, full of life, you can almost smell the flowers. PW

So you are the Robert Jones? Didn't realise. I particularly like your style. Love this one. PS I'm bunging it in!

Well Robert, I have had a wonderful look round your gallery and if you think this is too tight. well I'm a dutchman! Not Vincent Van Gogh? This painting is absolutely gorgeous just like the rest of your paintings I really love the way you suggest things are there. You have a great style that you should be very proud of. Will we be seeing some more work from you? PS thank you so much indeed for your comment. Maybe I will sell it now more that 13 comments? Been on this site a few years now there are many artists you get to know and their styles - which is lovely. I always read your comments on other peoples work - I find them very interesting.

I like the textures in this one Robert. The colours are muted which to me means a relaxing atmosphere. Some of these 'Nature-Paths' are a let down when you see them. (In Brum anyway). Unless it's me, longing for mountains and stuff. This looks nice though and I wonder if it's the one I know of, near Bembridge? Nice work Robert. Regards John

Gee Robert you are hard on yourself but I know where you are coming from...I paint mostly alone and it isn't until someone admires something or catches a glimpse of it and comment you might think well it's not that bad...who the hell cares whether it's loose or tight whatever works for you and this certainly works a beautiful painting

Well I think it's great missed this one earlier and agree with all of the above.

Oil on canvas covered board, 12" x 12". Getting too tight, I think, and looking for a looser style (which this ain't!).
