Another beauty, what a great series

Love the luminescence of the butterfly and the beautifully detailed leaves Quintin.

Beautiful detail

Beautiful

Excellent, as are all of your butterfly paintings.

So beautiful, so clever.

Beautiful butterfly, beautifully painted. Unfortunately when you see them for real, they close their wings really quickly revealing the patterned brown underside. I spent quite a time in Costa Rica, trying to get a decent photo of one, but failed miserably.

Thanks for all your comments - Linda, yes I know they are a bugger to photograph, we were in a butterfly house - along way from Costa Rica unfortunately!

This is beautiful and makes me feel a little weird, because I did an almost identical portrait in oil pastels a year ago. It wasn't my best work, partly because I couldn't get much detail in using pastels, so I've filed it away as a 'failed' experiment (although of course no experiment is ever a failure). But the similarity is just astounding. Well done though. The reflective scales on the wings are very apparent.
