Cottage rose garden 16'' x 12'' Watercolour
There are many disused cottages like this one on irish farms nowadays where the landowners have constructed and moved into modern dwellings.By and large old stone built cottages such as this are left to simply fall into decay.This one attracted me partly because it is a lovely example of a two storey cottage but also for the unattended garden which is full of colourful flowers,mostly roses.This is a plein air sketch which I painted sitting on my folding chair positioned on the side of the quiet country roadway.I could do nothing about the low boundary wall which runs horizontally across the bottom of the scene.
