This is a small oil on canvas, sketched on my way to the East Yorkshire Coast in late summer. I loved the patterns across the fields. I'm doing 3 very different paintings on the Wolds theme and this is the first to be finished - I'll frame them all the same. Then possibly I'll choose my favourite for a larger study after Christmas. For oils, I'm coming to the conclusion it's better to do a small study first and iron out the problems of composition, tone etc before painting big. I enjoy painting locally - I'm more familiar with the feel of places in the area.
