Lovely work Murray and good composition. I suspect the original is a lot brighter than this photo?

Both you and Rupert Cordeux displaying pictures of Dovedale: are you two working together? Anyway - like this one, and the square format is one I find particularly congenial, making me wonder why I don't do more of 'em. Having a bit of trouble with an oil at the moment, so will take inspiration from you....

Full blown summers day, and in God's county too! Sorry, I'm biased....I was born there. I paint with Artisan oils sometimes but I don't get results like this, fabulous!

Thank you for your generous comments! The original was a little brighter but of course I don't know how you see it on your screen Frank. I will be going up to Dovedale on Friday to lead an art appreciation holiday and will hopefully get chance to walk the whole of the Dovedale Gorge and get more reference sketches, photos etc. following in the footsteps of many an artist including Joseph Wright of Derby. It is a glorious part of the Country Fiona but Robert and I live on the Isle of Wight! If either of us could drive Robert it would be a pleasure to meet up and paint with you, maybe we can sort something out one day...

What we need to do, Murray, is hire someone to drive us - perhaps one of our many (ahem) devotees would do it for nothing beyond the price of petrol, and perhaps for the inestimable benefit of our instruction. Work on it, boy, work on it - you have a silver tongue, so different from mine which was marinated in acid.

Robert, I have a cunning plan! I'll see what I can do... How are you fixed for the remainder of the week following August Bank Holiday Monday? A day out sketching and painting perhaps?

30 x 30 cm Artisan water-mixable oil on stretched cotton canvas. This is a favourite scene revisited only this time rendered in the square format, this was a commission.
