A really nice pen and wash Mia.

Nicely done Mia. May i comment if its ok Mia. Sometimes when putting even numbers of objects such as trees, cows ,people(not always) birds etc , it can divide the painting into two. So to overcome this problem 3,5, 7 etc would help. Here perhaps you could put another tree on the righthand side of the trees but behind them, with a different spacing . I do hope this helps, Dave

Like it a lot Mia and David makes an interesting point

Thank you very much Linda, David and Heather for your comments. Yes, David, you are absolutely right, thank you for this positive observation. I can see it now. I didn't notice it before!

Another nice one Mia, as I have said before I like the simplicity of line it is so effective, Dave is correct, normally you work on the rule of odd numbers, for this piece I think it works just about because three of the trees are so dominant and the fourth quite understated, nice one.

Lovely pen and wash as usual Mia

I don't have a problem with the composition. I am ignorant of rules. This way makes you really look at it and not just accept what's there. You are drawn to the sluis and not the tree which is an incidental.

Beautifully sketched Mia. Whilst I agree with David, sometimes nature does not follow the rules, it looked fine until I read his comment.

Lovely pen and wash sketch as ever Mia

Thank you all so very much for your nice, encouraging comments.

I didn’t need to see your name against this Mia, it has your signature in its delicate pen work and unique use of washes.

Thank you very much, Fiona. I appreciate!

Such a lovely gentle study. Well done

Thank you so much for your nice comment, Karin.

This is a view of the West-gate in the little village of Sluis in Holland, just across the border, not far from where I live on the Belgian coast. I used a dip pen and calligraphic ink (W&N). When dry, I gave it a wash with different mixes of brown watercolour. Size 25x37cm. All comments are very welcome. Thanks :) Mia
