You've definitely achieved the chill, and the enormity of the ice. The foreground is particularly menacing.

Thank you very much Gudrun much appreciated.

Wild and untamed but full of wonder Malcolm, your figures give a sense of scale.

Thank you so much Fiona, yes without figures you could never hope to portray the scale of the place.

Soooooo cold, Malcolm!!!! You must have many memories to put onto paper. Lovely!

Thank you Jennifer and Dennis much appreciated. You are right Jennifer I have so many memories of the mountains both good and not so good but they all are part of the rich weave that makes up the memory carpet I will always have and of course I have hundreds of slides, photos and eventually digital images and videos I have taken over the years I can always use for reference.

Wow so beautiful Malcolm and so cold! I love the loose interpretation of that icy wilderness.

Thank you so much Carole that's means a lot, I found it difficult to make the decision to try a full painting in this style, so thanks for your comment.

Very impressive Malcolm - those two tiny figures with just a hint of colour are so important. I like the decision to use blue, just the one colour, it gives emphasis to the imposing mountains. That sounds a bit long winded but you get the gist I'm sure.

Not long winded at all Marjorie, I am very grateful for your comments, I like to hear what people think, I know I do the same with my comments and sometimes think I must bore people. Very much appreciated thank you

Beautiful use of shades which made painting alive!!!!

Thanks Manashree your observations and comments much appreciated.

This is my take on the blue ice world of the glaciers of the Karacoram mountains I travelled a number of times. For this I decided to try a different style to my normal mountain work and go for a looser and more possitive brush stroke taking away the detail but still trying to give that sence of both the fluid and solid nature of that ice world, I called it Blue Shangrila because the Karacoram mountains is to me , my Shangrilar.

About the Artist
Malcolm Buckley

I have always loved the outdoors and have climbed and walked in various places in the world, after giving numerous slide shows and talks about my trips to raise money for charity, i realised the slides and photos did not do what i saw justice, so I decided to start trying to paint.
