I wonder if Abstract art started by artists gradually paring down the detail they included in their paintings? certain sections of this are quite abstract.

Interesting thought Stephen, am I turning abstract without realizing? I look the same....LOL .. Much less time consuming and actually quite satisfying to see the shapes work together.

Another lovely and fresh sketch Louise

Organised chaos of houses, doors and windows. Abstract? Not yet but going into that direction. Love it Louise!

I do admire your ability to produce a satisfying painting with just a few strokes and blocks of colour!

Thank you Petra, Satu and Christine.

It is actually amazing what can be left out and still retain enough information to tell you what the scene is all about. I lack your vision in being able to do this and admire anyone who can produce work like this. I think you are turning to the abstract and I also think it might well prove to be your forte.

Nice n fresh again. I think all artists look for a certain abstraction within their subjects - I look for certain colour combinations, brushstrokes etc. I think it is a great thing to experiment with pure abstraction and is a great way to discover what really excites you. I tend to do this and then bring my discoveries back into subjective paintings - this to me is the essence of art and is I think your real signature.

Love the juicy brush marks - it all comes together so well.

Well thank you all so much. I'm mumbling to myself 'it's just a quick sketch' but nevertheless, I'm happy to accept you surprisingly good comments!

Love the washes and colours Louise. You are a loose lady ;o))

I'd been waiting for someone to say that Carole...LOL

Amazing work, Louise - I love the very energetic brushwork that gives such life to the painting!

Love the colours on this loose 'sketch'!

Great blue color, but to be honest I prefer your more finished work, but I understand it's only a sketch, maybe inspiration for a more finished work.

I agree Kevin, it took minutes, an experiment really to try out the cotton rag paper!

hi louise there is something very beautiful about this painting I love the simplicity of it. I know only too well that what looks simple very often isn't its your skill that makes it appear to be.well done

Hello Louise this is my favourite in your gallery Louise . It has an abstract quality to it which is very attractive . I feel i could turn it upside down and I would still love it . I love abstract art . It is obviously a street scene but you have used a big brush and distilled the scene to the bare bones i think that is what makes it a very nice piece of work. Well done its a fine picture. Dennis
