Extremely interesting project and always looking forward to the next episode.

It's been an interesting and humorous journey Lew, your family will greatly appreciate this ;)

It's been a blast of a journey, Lew. Great effort and determination AND an admirable final product. I know you're not quite there yet but the finish line is in sight. Did you stay at Tate & Lyle for long? Was it fifty years? I nearly joined the merchant navy at sixteen, even passed the interview and was ready to go, when my dad strenuously objected, almost, ALMOST, forbidding me to start my training. He was so anxious I withdrew my application. He'd joined the merchant as an engineering officer to save money to get married so he had some experience, but I always wondered what he'd been up to on his travels. *lol* Bri

Thanks to all for your interest and comments. No Brian, I didn't stay at Tate and Lyle for long...about a year I think. It could have been quite a good job. Even as a lowly office boy I was part of 'staff', that came with perks, like a meal in the staff restaurant at lunchtime. I was hearing the call of far away places, and it seemed the only way I'd do that was in the armed forces. There'll be a little about that in my two 'summary' pages. The merchant navy was one of the things I was mulling over...interesting what you said about your Dad.

This has been really interesting Lewis and you leave us guessing which is always good!

So enjoyed these Lew . Thank you.

Thank you Tessa and Sylvia, you're very kind. I must admit I had doubts about posting a mass of stuff about me growing up, but most of us have had similar experiences. So I guess it's less about 'me' growing up, and more about the process we all go through. But thanks for your interest.

Nice start to the morning Lewis. Better than any morning newspaper, bags full of talented drawing.

congratulations , Lewis , this has rang the bell for so many people.

Terrific Lew. Look forward to the closer, but it's been great fun and memories for me.

What a great illustrated story to have, Lewis

A huge thank you, Lewis for sharing this with all of us POLs. It's made us all think about our early lives and experiences, with a smile and sometimes a sob! Your family will be thrilled with these pages!

Thanks again for all your generous and interesting comments. Two more pages to round the thing off (I'll post them tomorrow), and then it's just the front cover to do.

Smashing work again Lewis. Now where was your sense of adventure - in an office? Think of all those girls who didn’t get the benefit of a sailor. Free meals on her Majesty too.

My intention was to take this up to my first job, and I'm there. So this is the last page in this format. I knew it would require something to round things off, or it would just stop at this point. I'm doing two pages, mostly text, to 'summarize'. They may be of no interest as this book is aimed at my family, not POL. But as I've dragged you this far, I'll post the text pages tomorrow...they will have something to illustrate them. Then I only have the front cover to do, and I'm dithering about that.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
