Lovely drawings Leslie, very well observed.

Great! Do you use 'ordinary' charcoal or the in thing, Nitram?

Good proportions and skilful use of the medium Lesley.

Thanks for your comments :) Gudrun, I use willow charcoal but am hoping to try compressed charcoal after Easter, I wonder if it's similar to Nitram?

These are smashing and well drawn of a good model.

Thanks Derek, yes she was an excellent model, she's also a fellow life drawer and art student :)

Well, I am going to have a try at charcoal on watercolour paper after this. It's going to be a shock to the old wallet as I usually go for cheapest sugar paper (and I don't actually pay for that). Wonderful lost lines, Lesley. Do you use an eraser for the highlights, how do you keep the surrounding areas so clean?! Thanks for sharing these.

Hi Ian, thank-you for your comment and good luck with the watercolour paper! Yes I use a putty rubber, medium, and remove lines and highlights. We're not allowed to fix drawings at the Mall Galleries, so I pop a piece of tracing paper over the drawings to transport them, and then give them a bit of a clean up with my putty rubber when I get home. I then fix them with a professional fixative. Thanks for your comment Mireia :)

I love to paint water, with boats, buildings or simply the water in oils. I'm a regular at life drawing sessions where I usually get covered in charcoal!
