Ah - the first of the penguins and very charming they are too. I like your arrangement of them and the different attitudes of their heads.

Roger Blackwell says: 'I found this an interesting project and chose to portray the three birds in natural surroundings and hence left off the dreaded green bands on their flippers! Rocks and ice give a little extra colour and I then positioned the birds looking into the centre of the picture. My favourite medium for animals and birds is pastel pencils which I used on a sheet of Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Size 16" x 11" on the textured side. I blended black, blue, brown and orange to give variation in the plumage, highlighted in places and drew in texture. I think maybe that some of this detail has been lost in the photograph'.
