Fabulous portrait Joseph. You have a bold, confident way with watercolour and the colours here are superb. One good thing about the site now, once you get used to it, is that the images are a good size. I can see your painting properly and wonder at your excellent technique. Then ask myself, why can't I paint like that..lol

This just glows, Joseph - wonderful use of colour to definite the planes and features of the face. Great likeness, too. Such confident work, but then yours always is.

Fabulous Joseph. How you manage to get such depth of colour in watercolour amazes me every time, such confident application.

Such panache, how do you get those beautiful darks without getting muddy. Love it.

Super bold portrait - love it!

Great use of colour & tone. Very striking!

Hello everyone, glad to be back on Painters Online. Thank you all so much for your comments, much appreciated. Yes this is probably one of the boldest paintings that I have ever done and is a bit of a cocktail of techniques - but it was fun to do so I'm happy with it.

I just got on to the site and started to look around. This was the first painting I went to as it was so striking, and so well drawn as well as superbly coloured and I was immediately surprised and pleased that it was watercolour which is the medium I am struggling with. The values are what make it stand out so well.
