View from the cafe
This is from memory, with the help of a few photos, taken on my phone. St. Ives bridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Painted many times it is a very recognisable subject in East Anglia. So poses a problem. I took this angle from the cafe at the foot of the bridge, actually through their window, and although I left the view more or less alone, I added the table and contents, which are outside on their veranda. I wasn't expecting accuracy, and it was really an experiment ( which is has proved to be). I painted a wash, and sketched in some of the detail, and worked from there. I didn't want hard lines, so washed the picture (under the shower) and scrubbed the surface with a toothbrush. Paper is not very good quality, medium is ink, black soluble ink, and silver pen to finish.
