I know just how she feels..... Very good impression and you were right to keep the detail on the chair to a minimum, I think. I also know how you feel regarding acrylic paper - I hate the stuff, but I'll try the suede-effect emulsion (if I can find it); I have never, ever produced a decent painting on paper alleged to be suitable for both oil and acrylic (in either medium) - horrible, horrible stuff. Have fonder memories of the old oil painting paper you used to be able to buy in rolls - but it did stink...My belief is that acrylic works very well on watercolour paper and on canvas; even on primed hardboard. But the paper is hideous.

Great painting Janet, not sure about the colour of the chair? Vivid Green or Blue may have worked?? (IMHO) I do have a title though "Does my bum look big in this?

Hi James: I quite often challenge myself by working with a very limited palette, in this case, Buff Titanium, Paynes Grey, Scarlet, Naples Yellow, Black & White. And yes, her bum DOES look big, doesn't it? Couldn't help that: it was the nearest part of her in my line of sight from where I was in the class. Hello Robert: Just in case anybody else clicks on my pic and they might be interested, the suede effect paint was bought from B&Q. It works on watercolour paper, too.

Hi Janet I suppose her bum would look bigger when viewed from that angle ;-) I feel as if I know the model the way you have captured her! I have replied to your comment about my painting of The Bulls Head btw.

Caught it and brilliant rendition

Acrylic on paper prepared with suede-effect emulsion to get some tooth, otherwise I find the paint slides around all over the place and won't 'stick', even 'tho it's supposed to be primed paper specifically for oil and acrylic. This was done a couple of weeks ago in our Wednesday morning class. Some painter's licence employed as the chair was a kind of brown with a busy pattern. I wanted to keep the impact on the girl in the red dress.
