Ian a smashing study of both the bird and the stones. The large black shape is a strong distraction to me.

I agree in your statement about the camouflage, had to look twice.

Oil on board 18" x 12". Sandpiper spotted by the river Ribble, brilliant in its camouflage against the stones and pebbles which line the banks. This one was drawn from sketches of similar birds and placed into the scene where I had observed them some years previous. The mass of pebbles took on a still life quality when it came to painting, and very therapeutic, however the rag was well and truly lost with the reflections!
