Nice work Helen. Clever use of blue tones for your highlight areas and you've caught someting of his character. My dog is also 11 and definitely not the best dog in the world. (-:

I can see why he is Helen. He made me think ( or you did ) of my best dogs in the world, sadly no longer here. This is a lovely painting of Oscar, he's gorgeous. I love how you've used the blue.

Thanks for all your lovely comments! Yes he is a gorgeous dog, very short-haired and shiny, which probably helped the painting a lot as I had great contrasts to work with. Much treasured dog now, as we lost our other Lab at Xmas time.

This is wonderful Helen, Oscar looks so good! I have a black dog and know how difficult it is to get it right - I've tried many times!

Thanks again for all your encouragement. I just got a commission this morning to paint a young black Lab after a friend saw this... New career path, haha! I'm pleased I decided to avoid using black paint completely. It's mainly Prussian blue, mixed with burnt umber for the darks.
