Pastel Demo

I've never used pastel Fiona. But this looks great, I like the tree shadows in the water.

Fiona, I think it is absolutely stunning in every way!! Love everything about it, the coloured, the composition and technique are superb!!!

Nice work Fiona, especially the reflections in the water. I don't think it's lost it's freshness at all. Sometimes we are our own worst critics !!

Lovely, Fiona. I particularly like the water. I had a similar problem with this paper too. It soon clogs and won't take any more pastel. Stephen (Slater) recommended using the other side, but I've not tried it yet. I've been using Pastelmat instead.

This is fantastic. When I saw it on the gallery I thought it was an oil. Fresh and full of energy, and you have retained your style. The reflections in the water are exceptional in my opinion. I am no pastel expert, but this is very very good.

This is really lovely Fiona, recognisable as your style but with more colour. Love the sky especially. Canson is what I usually use too, the smoother side for more detailed things( still life). I recently won ( !! ) a selection of Canson papers but haven't had time yet to try them. I do know that pastelmat uses a lot of pastel but it doesn't buckle if you do a base wash. Look forward to more like this!

Oh dear....I feel a fraud. I cannot take the credit for the composition I'm afraid, that goes to Mr. Phillips, but I have done my own thing with it. It's a demo of his, I love his watercolours but his pastel work is fantastic! I thought I had really made a mess of the reflections....too bold and heavy, the one on the left I did have a scrub at with a razor blade then re-applied a lighter pastel shade. I'm encouraged that some of you think it's okay. Peter, Marjorie I'm going to try the smoother side of the paper next time. Thank you all very much for your thoughts and comments, I'm new to pastels and would like very much your advice/crit to improve.

Some nice touches, especially the reflections, I like it a lot. It took me a while to find the right pastel paper for my style.

Your inimitable style shines through Fiona whatever medium you use. Pastel is my own particular favourite but I think I'll give up on mine and throw them away after seeing this, it's excellent.

Love the colours, Fiona - and the water is really effective. Also like the white highlights in the middle ground, they add a liveliness to it.
