Nice big sketch Fiona. I think the snow is fine, does not have to be pure white.

It still has that Highland feel about it. I think I prefer this composition, purely because the fence posts and the river leads you toward the copse and ultimately to the Hills! The palette is nice and soft.

I think I like this one better than the other one as it has a more gentle palette and everything seams to flow more into the distant hills.

I prefer this, although it is a snow painting there is something mellow about it. It all hangs together beautifully :)

I can easily live with the paper colour - it looks so cold and atmospheric

I really like the colours in this Fiona and as Michael said it's very atmospheric. It has a more natural look than the previous painting and I prefer it too.

Thank you very much Stephen, Gudrun, Carol, Sarah, Michael and Christine. I thought because it was on this paper it wouldn't have that crispness needed for a snow scene. I think Sarah has it, it gives it a more mellow look. Thanks everyone,.

Lovely scene and good composition Fiona.

Thank you Carole, much appreciated.

Beautiful Fiona, makes me think of a late winters afternoon just as the last light is disappearing when everything is still and quiet.

Val it sounds as if you were there!!! That's exactly the atmosphere it was, I'm glad that I may have managed to get a little of that atmosphere over. Thanks very much val!

Your sketchbook studies are really, really super, Fiona! Love this - the misty atmsophere and the crisp cold are all so well captured.

This sketch was done from a slightly different angle to my last posting, but it's roughly the same area. The paper in my sketch book is the off white Okra cotton paper, doesn't really give the look of white crisp snow..... no birds this time! Watercolours; u. marine, r. sienna, b. sienna, b. umber, touch of cerulean in the sky and white gouache in the reeds and on the fence posts. Over all size 17"x12". Thanks for looking.
