Carolyn, I find them strange to use also, so I think I will have to practice more, but it looks as if a smooth paper would suit them better, also i find the brush tip quiet small and some of the colours a bit bright but of course can be dulled by mixing colours, excellent for field work and sketching as very little to carry.

I agree about the colours David. I have to say I like their vibrancy. i too need to play with them more....it daves getting all of my paints out! I use Arteza coloured pencils which I find are excellent for blending, layering and fine detail. Great value too. All the best.
