What a great study! I don't quite understand that you say, you are not particularly gifted. What does that mean? That "real" artists just sit down, hocus pocus and there comes this amazing piece of art??? Yes, there are a few genius artist who didn't have to practice or study much. But... that's only a few. Sometimes, the problem with just having the gift is that they don't really much further and develop their talent as much as a person who thinks they need to take their skill to the next level. Keep up your great work! Be good to yourself, stay away from comparing yourself to accomplished artists and strive to keep your own and most of all, be patient.

Thanks, I found everything so much harder when I was young... its strange that I hardly did anything for so many years buy seem more talented now than I was then... maybe I just developed the patience to really look, have discovered some method and style that I know how to attack a portrait now... I have painted more in the last month than in the last 20 years and despite being ambitious I don't think I have produced a stinker yet.

Yes I can see it's him, great likeness and expression David.

That's Jude. Good work, David.

I’m not familiar with the actor but it’s a very impressive piece David.

Very good likeness, David, and you HAVE caught that madness. There's a personality working in this portrait, an animate presence. Brian

A4 acrylic on paper, a quick study of Jude Laq playing Hamlet (I saw this performance at the Wyndham Theatre and it was awesome) I tried to capture the madness and worked pretty quickly.

About the Artist
D Hillman

Inspired by an artist friend I came back to paint a bit at the end of 2017. At the moment I am enjoying it and maybe because I have the patience to look more than I once did I am finding it easier and more enjoyable to actually produce a likeness.
