When you say sticky wash Carolyn, what did you use, I only use a wash of watercolour then add the salt, I have also used a hairdryer to quicken the drying time but leaving it about an hour first and I've usually found this works well.

Linda, I used a palette knife to spread the paint direct from the tube then lots of water to disturb the paint and allow it to run and mix. Some bits of paint I left too thick (could only describe it as sticky!) on the paper so the salt had too much work to do. The second attempt was much wetter and less thick !

Yes it depends how deep you want your background colour, but try to keep plenty of water with your paint then you will find your washes blend into each other much better, hope this helps !!!

I will take your advice next time Linda - thank you very much.

I've never had much success with salt either Carolyn, I always get impatient and rub it off before the paint is properly dry. We live and learn.

I'm just too impatient Margaret.

Carolyn to get the best result with large salt grains the experts say you need a wet background and to spray after applying the salt granules and patience ;-) no hair dryer

As the title says, experimenting with a sticky wash with added salt......it didn't work as I wanted because I couldn't wait and used the hairdryer to dry it ..... .ah well, we live and learn. :-(
