I love your work Caroline. Very colourful.

Thank you for your feedback, colour is my 'thing'!

Very colourful and attractive. Reminds me of the style of Shirley Trevena whom I greatly admire.

Thank you Carole, yes I do like Shirley Trevena's work a lot and it's not surprising that it shows in my own work I suppose. I don't like absolutely everything she's done (not keen on the use of black with colour for example- yes I'm one of 'those' art teachers) But I do like the 'nods' towards Cubism and of course the use of dramatic colour. I like watercolourists that push the medium in new directions, so in addition to Trevena, I like Kurt Jackson (although he uses a wide range of mixed media) Michael Morgan, Ray Evans, Laura Reiter as well as Jackie Simmonds (and others!). The choice of still life has a lot to do with the look of my work as well. I love Picasso and Braque in terms of structure and Matisse for colour, multiple viewpoints, overlapping forms (selecting aspects from forms rather than 'copying') mark-making and strong colour are my things right now. That's not to criticize those that use watercolours in traditional ways of course, but that's not the sort of work I want to do. I greatly admire the skills involved in that. For example, I don't think I'd have the patience or skill to produce the kind of work you do which I think is tremendously skilled, beautiful and quite exquisite! Watercolour skills as such were simply disregarded when I went to art college - I did Fine Art - and I think they thought watercolour was for illustrators. So I didn't touch them. I was an acrylic and oils girl (when I painted) so watercolour is still a new and exciting medium to me! (I'm still 'playing'!)
