The lyrics are very, moving. It was written by Cardinal Newman and has been sung notably at the sinking of the Titanic and a terrible pit disaster in Durham. Whenever I see lots of light I’m reminded of this hymn. The warm glow from the lights compelled me to paint this still life. Using oil pastel on Pastelmat and my newly acquired iridescent Sennelier oil pastels I enjoyed painting this. 12” x 16”.
