Paris Street
Painted to pass some time at a Ten Artists annual fundraiser. It's pretty small, not much bigger than A5, and is very much an impression - not much is actually defined, painted with a No. 12 round on a rough paper to help skimp on marks, so there's a fair bit of dry brush going on, picking up on the essence of what each element is about. I've worked generally from thin to thick mixtures, back to front of composition, finishing obviously with dilute foreground washes overlain with dry -brushed darks to add foreground texture and a sense of perspective. This method is particularly advantageous in that it allows me to avoid planning any provision for figures; their mixtures are so thick and creamy I can add them virtually anywhere at any time in the process. A blessed relief.
