Good work, Brian.

Excellent work Brian and good to see Sheffield preserving its buildings. We had two fine Art Noveau buildings in Bolton, a cinema and the local Palais de Danse. Our town council in their wisdom and desire to design modernity, flattened the pair of them to the ground. Never mind, we got lots of retail outlets now for tattoo parlours, nail empires, tanning salons, book makers and pawn shops, oh, and student accommodation. Viva the revolution....(-:

This scene presented itself on a visit to a fair adjacent to the Abbeydale Picture House, a Grade ll listed former cinema undergoing a revival, on the edge of Sheffield's Antiques Quarter. It's a blend of mixed architectural references including a couple of white faience-tiled Deco-esque elevations and the cupola you can see in the painting. The interest lay firstly in the light, top left, casting shadows over the courtyard, from which the canopy emerges (always a nice counterpoint in a painting); and secondly the characterful three-wheeled wagon dispensing hot drinks to the punters, who I've left as fairly anonymous, lost-edged darks, albeit with the occasional highlight framed by their backdrop.
