Autumn at Netteswell
Fooling around painting from some old photos I took of the Priory Pond at Netteswell. What struck me most in the photos, was the stand of red cornus that Harlow Council Parks planners put in, a stroke of genius, I think. This is the NW corner, there used be an excellent Salix babylonica there but the angling club managed to get permission to cut it down because it was shading the corner and not allowing water lillies to form as shelter for the carp. Three years ago, when we left, about three years after the cut, there were still no water lillies, and no significant increase in the pond's carp population. Rowney soft pastels, Rembrandt soft pastels, FaberCastel Pitt pastel pencils on Clairefontaine pastelmat, anthracite, original image size 12"x9".
