Inside the Raven
I painted this sometime ago from a photo I took inside the Raven pub in Bath just after I had enjoyed one of there famous pies. I liked the atmosphere with some people relaxing and others grabbing a quick lunch. I particularly liked the almost silhouette of the guy in the hat, I later found out he is a local they call American John. I used. Water mixable oil paint starting with thin washes and gradually introducing thicker paint. The perspective was difficult and I struggled with the light at the end of bar and was glad that I as it was oils that passages could be reworked. I don't paint with oils very often but enjoyed using them for this subject .
