A good abstract Sandra which has inspired me to try one! I like the colours and shapes here and it flows nicely.

All part of your developing art Sandra.

Thank-you very much Louise. I shall look forward to seeing yours which I am sure will be great.

Lovely shapes and colours. Reminds me of stained glass :-)

John, Sarah, thank-you very much.

Well, I know nothing about abstracts, but I guess you'd call this a geometrical abstract? Even so, I can't stop myself looking for things I recognize, and I'm seeing a snail shell in the central group of shapes. For me, this form of abstraction is more accessible than others. I look forward to watching your progress.

Did you say what inspired you to paint this Sandra? It does suggest a landscape to me.

Lovely colours and lovely application Sandra

I have a sense of rolling fields and hills. Like the colour choices and the edging to each shape.

Beautiful colours, I like the yellow merging with the green. It has the effect of a stained glass window.

Agree with other comments Sandra, lovely colours and abstract

Great abstract reminds me of a landscape?

Love the colours, Sandra. I see, the red brick road to the sea.

Only just logged in which is why the delay in thanking you all for such encouraging comments, and replying. Yes I can see the snail shell Lewis although that wasn't in my mind when I painted it. Marjorie, there wasn't anything specific that inspired me other than the desire to go back to painting more abstractly. I drew the shapes over the beginnings of an abstract in a different style which I could see wasn't going to work, so that's how they developed. I put the first version on the forum for critique (I think you'll have seen it there), and this version turned more landscapy when I followed Michael's suggestion.

Dennis, Andre, Annick, thank-you very much. Carole, thank-you. Yes, it turned more landscapy in the second version. I hadn't started with that in mind. David, Ellen, thank-you very much. The red shape reminds me a little of a road too.

Great shapes and colour combination Sandra. Although there’s nothing specific to note it as one, it does give me the idea of a landscape.

Thank-you Fiona. Yes, when I reworked it I did have landscape in mind.

Thank-you very much Margaret.

Super work but you already know what I think of this piece - look forward to seeing more abstractifications from you - keep painting !!

Thank-you very much Michael and yes you will see more abstractifactions from me, as I have been encouraged by the response to this one. I'll be more aware of tonal variety next time too! I tend it get it confused with colour variety.

i hope this a very big canvas it will look great as large as poss.

Thank-you AA Midcalf for your encouraging comment. It is actually quite a small canvas 12x10 inches. I want to get better at this type of painting before working on a large canvas.

Love this :)

Superb! Like a stained glass window.

Acrylic on canvas 12x10 inches. First (revised) attempt to get back to painting more abstractly.

About the Artist
Sandra Kennedy

I became hooked on painting when I joined an evening class on painting "Abstracts in Acrylic" some years ago. Now retired, I was painting fairly regularly until the last couple of years when I've had a "creative drought". This year I'm getting back into painting, concentrating on abstract.
