A great painting Andre, not a Picasso fan myself but this makes a really interesting painting.

Thank you Linda, your comments always appreciated.

Great combination Andre. The painting might be getting to much of the attention maybe?

Thank you John, ...I think you're right, it doesn't sit well with me,but couldn't put my finger on it, could explain why the sketch seemed OK ,but once painted, well. Thanks again for your input and comment.

Good portrait. The Picasso is a bit like the elephant in the room.

I'll risk the ire and say it's fine and dandy by me. It's a scene that could happens, so, unless it's a selfie, then it's fine. Good work Andre....

Thanks Linda...point taken. In my head 3 of my favourite things seemed to be a nice combination, but best laid plans and all. Well they say learn from your mistakes, and we're always learning. Again thanks for your input and comment.

I think the composition is just right Andre... v nice pic.

I agree that the Picasso is dominating, but it's such a striking image I think it will be however you compose the picture. The first thing my eye went to was the Picasso. That said I think it's a cracking painting, Andre. I think it's a real beaut. A super painting of the man reading and a classic Picasso thrown in for good measure...who could ask for more?

Very, very nice painting, Andre. I've enjoyed looking at this and have thoroughly enjoyed reading the thread. It's great to read how others feel. The impact for me stemmed from the pensive, almost indifferent pose of the man, as he immerses himself in the Hemingway. Did he position himself next to the Picasso deliberately or was it the only free table to drink a coffee. It's coffee, right? I also love the fact that the image is looking over his shoulder, as if to sneak a read. Then there's the almost surprised look on the cubist face, asking how he could be so insensitive to its presence. Lots going on here. I can't help wondering if the watch is important. Brian

I can see the pros and cons of the Picasso, I looked at it first but then I went straight on to the man. It's a very interesting painting Andre, one that's caused everyone to think about it, a success in my opinion.

Thank you Jim, Sylvia, ,Lewis, Brian and Marjorie for those comments and input. A interesting response and really welcome ,to hear different views is really welcome and Brian's interpretation of the painting is great and really welcome.

I like it but would subdue the Picasso somewhat Andre then it would be perfect!

Looks good to me (composition), and what great subject matter, love it!

Thought provoking ... very good

The one thing I think would be picked up on if this were in a gallery Andre, is the book and hand position. I feel the left hand thumb should be inside the pages of the book is it looks to be floating in the air a little with no support. It's a nit pick, I know, but surely worth mentioning ?

Thank you Carole, Alan, Lynand Jim, and you're quite right Jim the book needs to be between thumb and finger, perhaps a rework on that small area if I ever do a larger version. Again thanks for the comment.

Really like this Andre. Agree that the painting is what first draws the eye, but I think it's also what makes the composition so attractive and gives it impact.

Very good and very clever.

Really interesting take on this!

Very nice composition Andre, it looks great!
