Hello Amanda if we passed in the street I am sure I would recognise you. Your style is so loose and free which is what I try to achieve but rarely do. It is frightening looking in the mirror though isn't it. You see all the lines appear as the years go by. Have you seen Rembrandt's self portraits? Thanks for commenting on my drawings - you were right about the left eye on one of the models.

Hi, Stuart! Thanks for popping by. Loose and free? I suppoe it is. It didn't used to be. I used to be tight and hung up on detail. Getting older helped; studying a bit of art history helped; using a knife helped; painting outdoors with time constraints heped - and lots of practice, of course. Pratice is where the mirror comes in. It's not unlike life drawing, in that it's awkward when you first start doing it, but after a while it becomes shapes and tones and something to draw. I've seen Rembrandt's self portraits in reproduction ( I think I saw one "in the paint" in London, once). I do very much admire Rembrandt's work.

Love this one Amanda, I think it hits the spot really well, the way you use variations of the same colours everywhere is just super

Watercolour (earth colours + viridian) on paper blutacked to wall by vertical mirror, white and black pastel pencil added later to define high and lowlights. And I lost the top o' me 'ead off the edge of the paper. Again.
