Fire Hydrant

hi i think you did a brillant job i love how the rusty hydrant is in the foreground xx

I do like your style Amanda, it's very fresh and not over loaded with detail.

Amanda, this is impressive: it has so much life and freshness. I'm not usually enthusiastic about work from photos, but this looks and feels as if you were there, and more significantly, makes me feel I am there!

Thank you Paula, Fiona and James. James, I *was* there - just not long enough to paint! They were my photographs (I have a personal rule about that). I've done a lot of plein air painting over the last year or so, but there are subjects that don't work in situ because of ambient temperature or angle or just plain lack of time (which includes presence of children). Unfortunately, time is even more precious now that I'm back in full time work.

And this one is great too - especially the hydrant, which is the most important bit of the painting.

An attempt at using a knife with acrylics. The background is brushed, the hydrant and trees are, um, knifed. 38 x 20 cm, from a photograph. The hydrant is on Greenham Common.
